The Bank of England has just announced that they will put the image of Jane Austen, one of my favorite authors, on the ten pound note.
Austen’s books were a mainstay of my classroom because her stories resonated with my students in a meaningful way.
One day soon I’d like to see the face of a woman on our nation’s paper currency.
NOTE: Someone correctly pointed out that women have been on non-commemorative coins in America (at least 3). So this post was updated with the word “paper” in front of currency.

Speaker Boehner thinks Congress shouldn’t be judged on the number of laws it passes, but the number of laws it repeals.
That makes no sense. He should know better than anyone that the House cannot repeal a law on its own. I’m calling it #BoehnerLogic.
